The concept sparkline was invented by Edward Tufte, as presented in Wikipedia: Edward Rolf Tufte, born in 1942 (Kansas City, Missouri, USA) is a professor of statistics, computer science, information design and political economy at Yale University. A sparkline is a graph that fits in a single cell in your spreadsheet. Initially, it was only curves (hence the term "line"). The sparklines are in Excel, through various add-ins (or supplements) for several years already.

Note 1 - In version "Positive / Negative", there is no indication of the absolute value, but only the distinction Positive / No / Negative.

Note 2 - The histogram default can not see well that there are negative values in the series, but we'll see how to fix this in the next section.
