We saw in the previous article that one of the problems of graph with two axes in Excel 2003 - and we have the same problem with and 2007 versions 2010! - That is, by default, the first half of the series is associated with the left axis and the second to the right axis.
This is not suitable for common situations where - as in the example of the last article - you want to associate the n-1 first sets the axis to the left, and only the last set to the right axis.
Suppose we have 8 series, 7 series of products and a series of total. If we proceed as we did four days ago, we default to the left and 4 sets 4 sets right.
We will then make 6 consecutive operations: for series 5-7, we have to change their type of graph and their axis.
Then there is a more effective solution: create a simple histogram to start with the 8 series. Then select the series 8 (total), change its chart type, then its axis ... Result: 2 operations instead of 6:)
A tip - When making a graph of this type (here we took the example of previous section), remember to make the graph clearer still.
How so? Well just as we have done here: we have put the total in red (a thick red line) and we also put in red the values of the right axis, so that the user understands that is "Total" is red, and it corresponds to the right axis. It's so simple, but how many people think?
