The walls ...

Top starting at 9 am equipped with our "little walking sandals," we are left for 3 or 4 hours walking around ... Indeed, there are 12 km of walls, apparently as much as Saint-Malo ... where we never went ... check! The view over the old city is quite different when one is high on the ramparts, and we discovered other beautiful places.

Between the birth of Cartagena de Indias in 1533 and the Declaration of Independence in 1811, he spent three centuries ... During this period, the Crown of Spain made this city the hub of the Americas with the gold trade, previously plundered the Indians, and unfortunately with that of slaves. Coveted by the English, French and other pirates, Cartagena was besieged, looted or destroyed many times. But never surrendered the city and its people have mentioned them in this new world. Cartagena de Indias, after this important work of fortifications made over the centuries by the English military empire, became the largest fortified city of the 3 Americas.

Four districts are inside the walls: Centro, San Diego, and Matunas Getsemani. The Centro and San Diego are the neighborhoods most frequented by tourists, as museums, churches, shops, restaurants are there. The other 2 neighborhoods have remained more popular, but not without charm and originality.

del Fuerte Pastillo - On the inside

Baluarte del Reducto - Baluarte de San Francisco

Baluarte de Santo Domingo - On the ramparts

Landside, Plaza de la Artilleria - Callejon de los Estribos

Baluarte de la Cruz (destroyed by the French in 1697) - Las Bovedas
Fuerte de la tenaz - India Catalina India captured by Pedro de Heredia, to serve as guide and interpreter, thus becoming the "peacemaker" between English troops and Indian populations
